It all began when.

Boston area based Guitarist, Singer and Composer; Adam Mendonca approaches music from several different angles to form his own personal style. Adam was Influenced at an early age from the sounds of Frank Sinatra and the 50’s Big Band era. He began playing guitar at age 6, when his father would let him tinker around with an old Yamaha acoustic guitar. Although he was young, Adam had an ability to hear songs and be able to play some sense of them almost instantly. He used that acute hearing to form a long repertoire of classic rock songs from the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s.

Mendonca continued to build his musicianship as a student of low brass instruments, beginning euphonium in the 4th grade. He would later switch to the trombone in high school where he played in the top jazz ensembles, earning multiple “Outstanding Musicianship” awards from the various music competitions his school would enter. Adam went on to study jazz trombone at The New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music in 2006, where he would study with greats such as Charles Tolliver, Jimmy Owens, Jane Ira Bloom and Vincent Gardner.

After College, Mendonca decided to focus primarily on being a full time guitarist; devoted to studying Funk, Jazz and R&B. It is then that he began to establish himself in the North Shore and Boston area of Massachusetts. Currently, Adam runs his own band, “The Donktet”; a collective of musicians who play the bands repertoire of original and cover music. He is also a dedicated educator; a full time guitar instructor at The Musical Suite, as well as the band director at River Valley Charter School, both located in Newburyport, MA.
